The Rocket Mortgage Classic 2020 – Who to look out for

The Course

The Rocket Mortgage Classic commences this week in Detroit, USA. Detroit Golf Club presents another parkland challenge for the pro’s this week with strategically placed bunkers and avenues guarded by trees. There are two courses at Detroit Golf Club and both will be used to create the tournament course. One hole will be adopted from the South Course while 17 of the North Course will be used.

The Picks

Big Hitting Bryson has shown some form since the restart to the season, and many of us will be eagerly following those long drives he loves to send off the tee box. There will be no Mcilroy, DJ or “Phil The Thrill” this week, this leaves the Bomb hitting title in the hands of Mr DeChambeau. Our favourite for this week will indeed be Bryson DeChambeau as we feel his game is showing minimal signs of weakness and is due a victory very soon!

Our second pick of the week ventures to the golfers who have not had a win for a considerable amount of time, yet their talent gives them the ability to break through and win again any second… To mention a few of these golfers, we look at the likes of Jason Dufner, Brandt Snedeker and Keegan Bradley. My golfing sense tells me that Brandt is showing signs to capture a win soon. Finishing T3 at the Farmers Insurance before the break and a solid performance last week fuels the ample confidence he has to ride home a victory.

Our UK pick for the week will be smooth swinging Matt Wallace. Wallace is a player who falls into the category of pure & raw talent. He has a fundamentally sound golf swing that looks as if nothing can go wrong with it. Matt is also one of those golfers who can get hot at any time. A few putts made and a few shots hit close to the pin will give him the bounce in his step to get on a streak and not look back at who he has left behind!

With many of the top 10 not teeing it up this week, opportunity is presented for some lesser known players to make a statement out there. Last week we saw Tim Wilkinson and Will Gordon gain some attention from the media. Our outsider pick for this week will be Robby Shelton. Shelton graduated from Alabama university who are commonly associated with a strong Golf Programme. Robby is currently ranked 76 in the FedEx Cup and has yet to breakthrough and win on the PGA Tour. We think he will have a look in this week and have his name mentioned more frequently than in the past.

The Recap

To Recap, our picks for this week are:

  • Bryson DeChambeau
  • Brandt Snedeker
  • Matt Wallace
  • Robby Shelton
